I, as a malaysian chinese, who is a foreigner to china’s chinese, and second class citizen to malaysian malay, am glad that china’s chinese take us as same race and class. For us, as malaysian chinese, we share some character that other country’s overseas chinese don’t have, that is: we inherited very good chinese culture and many of us even share the same level of chinese language ability with china’s chinese.
When I was in my secondary school which is an Indepent Chinese High School that need us as one of the chinese culture inheritor to go fundraising for our school’s expenditure that Malaysia government never give support in finance or policy. Our great United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia did take many efforts to educate our chinese new generation. But that need a good reason for what we are insisting on.
I think these questions below is very important for a race’s culture inheritance, the spirit of malaysian chinese Lin Lian Yu lead us to stand for our culture especially language education by fundraising and build up of Chinese Indepent School. He emphasized that we must stand on good and right reason to strive for our own culture education, the unreasonable, extreme and narrow self-consideration is not the way to develop our culture.
1. Is Chinese culture worth to inherit? How about other culture? Do they worth?
2. Is it in the nature of things to judge the value of a culture by the economic interests?
3. How should we consider ourself if we are minority. Should minority stand for their culture? Is it only "good" culture worth preserve? What’s the definition of good culture?
4. Who are we? Is it better or possible to become other race?
5. Is culture of strong country that good or do we have any things better to preserve? Is there any potential hope that we can cope with them?
6. What’s the centre spirit of Chinese culture? What’s the definition of Chinese?
7. What is the way for us to develope and perfect our culture?
